Caramel and apples go together like peanut butter and chocolate and when you combine dates and apples in this Caramel Apple Protein Smoothie you are getting a sweet treat without any artificial flavours or sweeteners.

Any kind of apple will do based on personal preference. A bit of tartness in a green apple will go great with the sweetness of the medal dates, but a Gala or Macintosh or Fuji works too. Be sure to keep the skin on for extra fiber!

In addition to adding a natural sweetness and a ‘caramel’ taste to this Caramel Apple Protein Smoothie, dates are high in fiber, potassium and contain calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and zinc, B vitamins, Vit A and K. They are great for digestions, building muscle and bones as well as being a natural energy booster.  They taste amazing in these Triple Chocolate No Bake Cookies too!

Hemp seeds can be added if you have any.  They tend to be flavourless so get well in any protein smoothies. Hemp seeds are rich in healthy fats (Omega 3, 6, 9) and contain all 9 essential amino acids. They are also a great protein source and contain high amounts of vitamin E, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron and zinc.

Cinnamon is optional as it tends to take over.  If you’d rather taste sweet and not cinnamon then don’t add it.  Cinnamon does have its own healthy benefits but is not necessary in this protein smoothie.
