This Chocolate Cinnamon Protein Smoothie adds a tsp of cinnamon to a plain Chocolate Protein Smoothie for a dash of added health benefits!

Cinnamon is made from the inner bark of trees called Cinnamomum and comes in two varieties – ceylon cinnamon, and the more common cassia cinnamon.  Cinnamon is made by cutting the stems of the cinnamomum tree, extracting the inner bark and removing wood parts. When it dries, it forms strips that curl into rolls (cinnamon sticks) and that can be ground to form cinnamon powder.

We don’t always get enough greens so adding spinach to this Spinach Mango Lime Protein Smoothie not only gives it a bunch of nutrients, but also a great green colour and it pairs nicely with mango and lime! Even my kids liked this one!

Lime is the magic ingredient.  I have posted recipes before with lime and it makes the biggest difference when you are adding greens to your morning smoothie, not to mention the juice adds a hit of vitamin C too.

Spinach is an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin A (in the form of carotenoids), manganese, folate, magnesium, iron, copper, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin E, calcium, potassium and vitamin C. It is a very good source of dietary fiber, phosphorus, vitamin B1, zinc, protein and choline while the mangoes add vitamin C & K and just enough sweetness to make this one refreshing smoothie.

While cutting up a giant watermelon for the kids put some aside for yourself.  Freeze or use right away with some Ontario fresh or frozen strawberries and, if you have it, a spring or mint. Yum.

I love incorporating oats in my morning smoothies on days when you need to make sure you are getting the added fiber, B vitamins and extra protein the oats provide.  Just 1/3 cup offers 3 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber plus is a good source of Vitamin B6, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese and Selenium. Caramel and apples go together like peanut butter and chocolate and when you combine dates and apples in this Caramel Apple Protein Smoothie you are getting a sweet treat without any artificial flavours or sweeteners.

Any kind of apple will do based on personal preference. A bit of tartness in a green apple will go great with the sweetness of the medjool dates, but a Gala or Macintosh or Fuji works too. Be sure to keep the skin on for extra fiber!

In addition to adding a natural sweetness and a ‘caramel’ taste to this Caramel Apple Protein Smoothie, dates are high in fiber, potassium and contain calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and zinc, B vitamins, Vit A and K. They are great for digestions, building muscle and bones as well as being a natural energy booster.  They taste amazing in these Triple Chocolate No Bake Cookies too!

Hemp seeds can be added if you have any.  They tend to be flavourless so get well in any protein smoothies.
